On June 7,
I wrote about the turbulent marriage of William Northen (my fifth great
grandfather) and Abigail Minty. Shortly after his wife sued him, William
moved down to Edgecombe County, North
Carolina and, apparently, several of his sons moved
with them. One of them who moved with
him was his son William. William Jr.
married a woman named Margaret Dickens in North Carolina
and moved down to Jones,
Georgia before his
death. William and Margaret had a number
of children, one of whom was named Peter.
One of Peter’s sons, William Jonathan Northen was the governor of Georgia
from 1894-1898. If you’re interested in
checking out what Governor William Northen did as governor you can read about him at http://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/nge/Article.jsp?id=h-2804. Note that he traces his ancestry to the
same original person that we do – John Northen.

Wow, how cool that one of our relatives was governor of Georgia! Seeing how all of the roots spread in different directions is really interesting. Makes you wonder where we have relatives today that we aren't aware of - and how they spell the last name!
